Our mission is to develop the best growing medium for efficient, more local, sustainable horticulture. Why? Let us explain: We are in the midst of a time of transition. The horticulture sector is also developing rapidly, in terms of sustainability and precision cultivation, for example. We already notice it in the changing demand for growing media. In addition, the demand for green products and healthy food will only increase in the coming years.

Nygaia is a fully biodegradable substrate plug!
Nygaia is a growing plug designed by Klasmann-Deilmann and Maan Biobased Products to optimally support the roots of the plant, during cultivation. And it fulfils this function with verve. Nygaia is 100% made of biodegradable polymers, allowing it to be composted once its functional period has expired. In doing so, it benefits Mother Earth again. Much of these biopolymers are also biobased. That means they come from a natural source. They are extracted from the remains of maize, cassava or sugar cane. And that completes the circle
The advantages for the grower
The advantage of an artificial substrate? The manufacturing process is controlled to perfection. And therefore the grower can always count on a clean, safe and stable product. We ensure that the product is pathogen-free and contains no harmful substances. It is completely inert. And each plug has exactly the same fibre structure, looking at fibre thicknesses and fibre direction. As a result, a grower can count on a very stable quality, which in cultivation ensures uniform germination and a very uniform, strong and healthy crop.
We are going one step further...
We need to get rid of the huge volumes we ship every day. We can do that more efficiently. So we want to supply a semi-finished product and provide the grower with automation to produce Nygaia on site. This gives the grower full control over shape and fibre density and the quantity produced. This gives maximum control and always a fresh substrate. Overproduction is a thing of the past. Plus it saves a significant number of transport movements. What an impact that would have! That dream is increasingly becoming a reality!
